Opinion of one dancer’s mother: EPIC 2009 was by far the best yet! Dancers, family members, & friends at SLDC (SpotLight Dance Company) enjoyed the entire weekend and we can’t wait until next year. It is so wonderful and almost unbelievable in the competitive dance world to have a workshop & competition where you feel so welcome and special. Where you belong… Even the competing teams are encouraged to be friends with one another and are actually practicing this idea. These are a few reasons we will continue to come back. For too many years we have attended functions where as attendees we were just a $dollar sign or a #number. Where the instructors would not even acknowledge your existence much less spend a moment to talk with you or help you with a step you may have found difficult. Or if you were friends or associated with someone the “popular” or “established” ones didn’t like or another division of the dance world, then you were made to feel inferior or talked about in a negative way. At EPIC, we are individuals, teams, dancers, family members with names or at least known by our affiliation with our director. We are all made to feel like the “popular” or “established” ones. Instructors spend time talking, laughing, dancing, and even sharing a part of their personal selves with the attendees. I have watched Simone, talk with & hug dancers and most importantly, encourage them. Notice her staff, Cheryl, Marie, Britton, “Rooster”, & Bill with big cheery smiles welcome people as they arrive and go out of their way to accommodate even the most negative customers. I love Simone’s EPIC Conference because it is such a positive experience for all who attend. I pray EPIC will continue to be blessed. That there will be no controversy. Numbers will grow. The integrity of EPIC will be upheld. Everyone involved will truly realize the great importance of being involved in such a dynamic dance opportunity. Thank you, Simone. I really appreciate all the advance planning you put into every event you do. Because of your expert organization, you supply dancers with an exact time to arrive and be ready to dance. It was so nice to know that duo/duets began at 1:00 pm and an advance schedule showed how many competitors were entered in each division. I knew when and where to be and approximately how long it would take to finish. This was so helpful to me but it also made it wonderful for the elderly fan club that came to watch us dance. The group included Caroline's mother and several other family members that traveled from various parts of Tenn. just see watch us dance. They were very impressed with the entire competition and even went back on Friday night. I know you're exhausted but please keep up the good work! The solo was AWESOME and that's how I remember the Simone I knew from when I was little girl=) My Dad just wanted to see you dance one more time and even though he couldn't be there in the flesh I believe he was there in spirit.
